Floor vitrification means applying several coats of protective resin to a floor that has already been polished or thoroughly cleaned, giving it shine and protecting it from stains and wear. In Mallorca it costs €8 to €15/m² in 2026 as a standalone treatment, or €3 to €6/m² extra when it is the finish after a polish, and you can walk on the floor after 12-24 hours. Vitrifying a floor means sealing it with coats of resin that form a protective film on top of the material. Crystallisation, on the other hand, adds no coat: it hardens the surface of the marble or terrazzo itself and gives it a mirror shine. Polishing comes before both: it grinds the floor down with diamond discs to remove scratches, rings and unevenness. Vitrifying a floor in Mallorca costs between €8 and €15/m² in 2026 if the floor is already smooth and only needs the treatment: around €800-1,500 for 100 m². If it is vitrified at the end of a polish, it adds €3 to €6/m² to the polishing; polished and vitrified terrazzo comes to €10-20/m². In hotels and apartment buildings over 300 m², the price drops to €7-9/m².
In a home with normal foot traffic, a vitrified floor keeps its shine and protection for 3 to 5 years before it needs a maintenance touch-up. In entrance halls, shops and hotels, with more traffic, it needs one sooner. A well-kept polish with vitrification can last a decade with those touch-ups, and it works out cheaper than buffing every two years.
A vitrified floor can be walked on 12-24 hours after the final coat is applied. Furniture can be placed on it after 48-72 hours, and the first mopping can be done after 10-15 days with a neutral cleaner. Each resin coat requires 4 to 8 hours of drying time, so vitrification adds one or two days to the job.

It depends on its condition. If the floor has scratches, rings, or unevenness, then yes: vitrification seals what's underneath, it doesn't correct it. If it's smooth and has only lost its shine, simply stripping the old wax (€2-4/m²) and applying vitrification is sufficient. We'll assess it during the visit, which is free.
Terrazzo, concrete and marble are the floors most often vitrified, and so are hydraulic tiles, with a protective finish that respects the pattern. The floor has to be clean and free of wax for the resin to bond. On granite the usual approach is to finish with diamonds to a fine grit instead of vitrifying.
With a microfibre mop every day and a weekly wash with a neutral cleaner diluted in warm water, without soaking the floor. Avoid ammonia, bleach and strong degreasers, which dull the finish, and put felt pads on furniture legs and a good doormat at the entrance: grit is what scratches it most.
