Sandblasting fires an abrasive at controlled pressure to remove dirt, paint, rust or graffiti from stone, marés (Mallorca's local sandstone), wood and metal without chemicals. In Mallorca it costs between €8 and €30/m² in 2026 depending on the material and access, around €15/m² on average, with scaffolding charged separately. Sandblasting, also known as abrasive blasting or grit blasting, cleans a surface by firing an abrasive at it with compressed air. What makes the job good or bad is the choice of abrasive and pressure, because each material can take something different:

In Spanish it is called chorreado or arenado; in English, sandblasting or abrasive blasting. When the abrasive is steel shot, it is called shot blasting. Real sand is hardly ever used today: depending on the material being cleaned, the abrasive is aluminium silicate, corundum, glass beads or bicarbonate of soda.
Yes. Window grilles, railings, gates and steel structures are among the most common jobs: blasting removes rust and old paint and leaves the metal ready to be protected. In Mallorca it costs €10 to €20/m² for ironwork and €8 to €18/m² for industrial structures. On soft metals such as aluminium or copper, only with mild abrasives. No, not if the pressure and the abrasive are right. Marés is a soft stone that needs low pressure and a great deal of judgement; with the wrong abrasive, the surface gets eaten away. That is why we always start by looking at the stone. We explain it in our guide on whether sandblasting damages surfaces.
When the façade cannot be reached from the ground, yes: scaffolding or a lifting platform, which adds €6 to €12 per m² of façade to the price of the blasting. It is worth asking before you sign, because it is one of the costs most often left out of quotes.
Protect the surface, because it is left clean and open. On stone and marés, a water-repellent treatment is applied if you want to protect it from damp and stains; on metal, a protective coating or paint before it starts to rust again. We leave you the instructions when we finish.
