Sandblasting in Mallorca costs between €8 and €30/m² in 2026, with an average of around €15/m². A sandstone facade costs between €15 and €30/m²; wooden beams, between €12 and €25/m²; and metalwork and locks, between €10 and €20/m². Scaffolding, when necessary, adds an extra €6 to €12/m². And be aware: silica sand is prohibited as an abrasive, so a very cheap quote often means something else.
National price comparison sites will tell you that sandblasting costs "between 5 and 35 euros a metre". That is true and it is no use at all: it is like saying a car costs between 8,000 and 120,000 euros.
The useful thing is to know where your job falls on that price range and why. So let's break it down by surface type, with the prices we charge on the island for our service sandblasting, and with the costs that hardly ever show up in the quote that looks cheapest.
How much does sandblasting cost in Mallorca in 2026?
Sandblasting in Mallorca costs between €8 and €30/m² depending on the material, condition, and access, with an average market price of around €15/m². For a small job, there is also a minimum travel and setup fee that usually ranges between €350 and €600, because moving the compressor, machine, and abrasive costs the same for 10 m² as for 100 m².

These prices are for completed work: they include labor, abrasive, machinery, and cleaning of the area upon completion. They do not include the use of an auxiliary device for working at height, which is charged separately and explained below.
Why does the price of sandblasting vary so much from one quote to another?
The price varies because sandblasting isn't charged per meter cleaned, but rather per meter of difficult-to-clean surface. Two facades with identical surface area can cost twice as much if one has three coats of plastic paint and the other only has environmental dirt. These are the five factors that truly drive the price:
- What needs to be removed. Environmental dirt is quick; plastic paint, embedded rust, or graffiti require several passes.
- On what material. The marés stone is soft and requires lower pressure and abrasive adjustment, which slows down the work.
- Access. An interior courtyard in an old town without an entrance for the compressor multiplies the hours.
- The height. Scaffolding, lifting platforms, or vertical work completely change the approach.
- Waste collection. The used abrasive must be swept up, bagged, and taken to a waste management facility. In urban environments, this takes half a day.
That last point is the most underestimated. After sandblasting a 120 m² facade, hundreds of kilos of abrasive remain on the ground, and someone has to remove them.
How much does it cost to clean a marés stone facade with sandblasting?
Cleaning a marés facade by sandblasting in Mallorca costs between €15 and €30/m². It is the most expensive job on the list and also the most delicate, because marés is a porous sandstone that the abrasive eats away if it is applied at the wrong pressure. A 100 m² facade usually comes to between €1,500 and €3,000, plus scaffolding.
The marés stone is unforgiving. Aggressive sandblasting strips away the surface crust—the hardest and most protective layer of the stone—leaving the facade permanently vulnerable to moisture and salt. If someone offers to sandblast marés stone for €8/m², the question isn't whether it's cheap. It's what pressure they plan to use.
How much does it cost to sandblast the wooden beams of a Mallorcan house?
Sandblasting wooden beams costs between €12 and €25/m² of beam surface, and in village houses it is usually quoted per linear metre, between €18 and €40 a metre depending on the section. A living room with eight five-metre beams comes to around €900-€1,600.
Here the price depends on what is on top of the wood. A beam with old varnish or paint comes clean in one pass. A beam that has been boxed in with plasterboard for forty years and has plaster stuck to it takes twice as long. How much does it cost to sandblast grilles, railings and metal structures?
Sandblasting metal costs between €10 and €20/m² for metalwork and between €8 and €18/m² for industrial structures, although for small pieces it is charged per unit or per hour of workshop time. A complete balcony railing ranges from €150 to €350 depending on its length and the extent of the rust.
On the Mallorcan coast, metal rusts at a rate that surprises visitors. The salt air is a constant attack, and a beachfront railing might need sandblasting every six to eight years, compared to fifteen to twenty years for an inland house. If the rust has pitted the metal, sandblasting removes it all, but it must be primed within a few hours or the rust will return. More details in sandblasting of metal.
Why does the abrasive used change the price of the job?
Because silica sand, which was the cheap abrasive of yesteryear, can no longer be used. Respirable crystalline silica dust has been classified as an occupational carcinogen since the Royal Decree 1154/2020 amended Royal Decree 665/1997, and since 1 January 2022 the exposure limit value has been set at 0.05 mg/m³. The INSST documents sandblasting as one of the activities with the highest exposure to silica, due to its direct relationship with silicosis.
In practice that means the work is now done with silica-free abrasives — aluminium silicate, corundum, steel shot, glass microspheres, garnet — which cost between three and eight times more than river sand. A good part of the difference between a serious quote and a suspiciously cheap one comes from there.

What costs are not usually included in a cheap sandblasting quote?
A quote that looks 30% cheaper almost always is because it leaves out items that turn up later. These are the ones worth asking about explicitly before you sign:
- Auxiliary equipment at height: scaffolding or platform, between €6 and €12/m² of facade.
- Protection of joinery, glass and neighbours: plastics, tapes and mesh.
- Waste management: bagging and delivery to an authorised waste contractor.
- Subsequent treatment: primer on metal or a water-repellent treatment on stone, without which the job lasts half as long.
- Licence or permit to occupy the public highway, mandatory in many urban areas of the island.
- Construction water and electricity, if there is no outlet available.

How to request a sandblasting quote that can be compared?
- Measure and give the real square metres, not an estimate by eye.
- State what material the support is made of: marés, brick, wood, iron, steel.
- Explain what needs to be removed: paint, rust, graffiti, soot, environmental dirt.
- Indicate the height and whether there is road access for the compressor.
- Ask what abrasive they will use and at what pressure.
- Ask for the scaffolding and the waste management to appear as separate items.
- Confirm if it includes after-treatment protection.
With those seven points, two quotes can really be compared. Without them, you will be comparing different jobs.

If it is marés, the range sits at the top end because of how delicate the work is. On top of that figure you have to add the scaffolding, between €600 and €1,200 for that area, and the water-repellent treatment afterwards if you want to protect the stone.
Why are sandblasting quotes so cheap?
They usually are, for three reasons: they do not include the access equipment for working at height, they do not allow for waste management, or they use an abrasive that is unsuitable and cheaper than the substrate calls for. The third is the dangerous one: an abrasive that is too aggressive on marés or wood causes damage there is no going back from, and it costs far more to repair than the difference saved.
Is sandblasting charged per square metre or by the hour?
On facades, beams and large surfaces it is charged per square metre, because the output is predictable. On individual pieces, machinery, engines or workshop jobs it is charged per unit or by the hour, since the geometry of the piece determines the time far more than its surface area. In any case there is almost always a minimum service charge for getting the equipment there.
Can sandblasting be done in a flat or a block without disturbing the neighbours?
Yes, but it takes preparation. Indoors we work with the area sealed off, with extraction and with everything that is not being blasted protected, and a schedule is agreed with the residents. The noise of the compressor is the main constraint, so the work is normally done in working hours and the neighbours are given notice. In courtyards and street-facing facades a council permit is usually needed.
How long does a sandblasting job take on a private house?
The facade of a detached house of 100 to 150 m² is done in three to five working days of actual work, plus putting the scaffolding up and taking it down. The beams of a living room take one or two days. In metal and ironwork, most pieces are finished in a day. To that you have to add the protective treatment afterwards, which needs its own drying time.
When it's NOT worth hiring sandblasting services
- Painted surfaces that will be repainted the same. Sometimes a pressure wash and localized sanding are enough.
- Badly degraded or crumbling stone. The blast will finish stripping it away; that calls for consolidation, not cleaning.
- Jobs below the minimum service charge. For two small window grilles, a paint shop works out better.
- When the problem is humidity, not dirt. Sandblasting a facade with capillary damp leaves it clean but with the same problem underneath.
